MACINTOSH MONDAY

Meet Dougal. Yesterday Macintosh and I were invited to his house for dinner. Well really it was Kath and Jason inviting us but Dougal was the one meant to entertain Macintosh. I have to admit I was a little bit nervous about this as Macintosh is not always the most well behaved of dogs! A new place or situation causes him to get very excited and he gets a tad disobedient.

When we arrived Macintosh immediately began to sniff out the place. He covered every inch of the downstairs multiple times over so that he knew the place back to front. This is his favourite thing to do and so he was quite happy doing this. He would probably have done that all day as a new house means there's just so many new smells. However Dougal, being a Scottie, didn't understand Mac's need to sniff everything and behave like a true hound so he decided to play.

Now usually Macintosh is the smallest dog and he stupidly tries to play with any dog he goes near, often to some disastrous consequences but this time he was totally thrown as Dougal kept launching himself at Mac, barking and trying to play. Unfortunately Macintosh wasn't ready to play which frustrated Dougal no end. Sorry Dougal!

We let them outside to do their business and then suddenly Mac came alive! (after he'd sniffed as much of the garden as he possibly could obviously!) Dougal tried desperately to keep up with Mac as they ran round and round in circles but unfortunately Mac's legs were longer so it ended up with Dougal rolling around on the floor as he tried to quickly change direction. It was entertaining to watch but resulted in a rather wet Dougal. Oops!

Once they got back inside Mac was back to the sniffing and occasionally playing with Dougal. This is the only shot that shows the two dogs without being a complete blur!! They moved far too fast!

But the interesting part came as we ate dinner. For the most part Macintosh was completely fine. He sat or laid near us at the table, obviously hoping for a scrap or two to fall from the table but none did. Well until we realised the garlic bread was a little....crispy! So Jason kindly took Andrew's role of feeding Mac from the table, for which Mac was very grateful. Can I just point out too that extra crispy garlic bread when crunched by dogs makes a really loud sound!

However as we finished our food that's when Mac's true hound skills came alive. Sniffing extra carefully he located the plates on the table and resting his paws on the table began to lick the plates! He is one disgusting dog! Although to be fair that's not the worst thing he ate that day. He did happen to lick Kath's blood off the floor after a minor cheese grating accident! Yum!

After dinner a fairly muddy walked ensued which involved the adults walking penguin style as we straddled across the muddy paths, attempting not to fall over or get too covered in mud! The dogs enjoyed a drink from the stream which was lovely until Mac walked through the stream and got out the other side. He then panicked about how to get back and refused to get back into the stream which resulted in me tugging on the lead hard enough to get him to fall into the water forcing him to walk back across the stream. Silly dog!

Overall it was an eventful day and left Macintosh absolutely shattered. He promptly slept for the whole evening barely making a sound! Bliss!
